7 Great Android & iPhone Apps for Fitness Freaks

This is a guest post by James Harper. If you would like to write for Ravi Saive, check our guest posting guidelines.

There was once a time when only geeks and yuppies had mobile phones, but that was a long time ago. Today, smartphones are a universal technology. Teenagers, executives, and old-aged pensioners all carry their phones with them, and use them for everything from text messaging to tracking their grocery lists. One rapidly growing part of the mobile apps market is fitness related applications. Since many mobile phones have cameras and GPS tools built in, this makes them ideal for carrying out common workout and diet related tracking tasks. The following seven mobile apps are among the most popular in the fitness market.

1. Bodybuilding.com App

This app is one of the simpler fitness tools. It offers users easy access to the main features of the bodybuilding.com portal, and lets them track workouts, comment on profiles, and manage their friends lists. This is a good example of how a web development company might use mobile application development to keep site members thinking about, and using, their site on the move.

If you're trying to lose weight, then this tool is invaluable. It has a huge user-created database of common foods and beverages, including calorie values for many popular chain restaurants. You can use your phone's camera to scan barcodes for quick-and-easy meal entry.

3. Fitocracy App

Unlike most of the other apps in this list, this particular app is only available for the iPhone. It allows you to track workouts, earn points, complete quests, and otherwise engage with the Fitocracy website. This is another example of how an existing web development company might expand their website via mobile application development.

5. CardioTrainer App

This app is similar to Runkeeper and only available for Android, but slightly less sophisticated. It's worthy of inclusion in this list because of the extra weight loss and fitness game modules, which can be helpful for people that need a little extra motivation.

C'mon people! The 4s is still brand new. Apple fans truly are like rats that never get the cheese and continue to get zapped over and over. Don't ask yourself why Apple has more money than some small countries if you are already planning to trade your 4s in for this new version.....again. Only a company as slick as Apple can convince people they need to upgrade overpriced electronics every year when they can't afford to drive a decent car or pay their bills on time every month. Slick marketing for sure. The old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted" should be their slogan for life!
