Siri: Apple's New Voice Assistant

Siri voice control is the most happening feature in Apple iPhone 4S. It is based on the principle of recognizing voice and converting them into language scripts. Siri is a feature that is supposed to use the voice signals to send messages, place reminders, schedule a phone call by saving the required information for the action. It also helps in finding the information about the directions and places around such as restaurants, coffee shops or any address needed to be found. It uses the applications in it to send text messages and emails. It can even search the web to make required information available and it can also play music all by itself with a mere instruction. It is built such to act as an alarm also. The stock exchange status is also provided by Siri in an apple iPhone 4S. Siri is popular as it has the ability to derive sense from normal spelled languages unlike the other android applications that are supposed to compete Siri. It also carries out the command to find a contact out of the contact books.



But the users are not satisfied with this application as per a recent research carried out to check the popularity and usability of Siri. Many people found to complain about Siri’s work-ability. As they opine, Siri is unable to connect to the network when a voice command is given to it and it shows an error message most of the time they want to use it. It might happen as in the iPhone, Siri works by receiving the voice command and sending it to a remote server to execute the command. So, it can be assumed that a weak network can never help Siri to perform its expected jobs such as creating texts from voices, creating reminders etc.



It is also assumed that the problems arising in Siri are because of the problems arising in the servers that process the voice commands given to the Siri. It is also found that the chatty repartee gets replaced by some error messages or silence at times when a voice instruction is given to Siri. It would become a critical case if one error is found in one of the systems in the application and when it is fed to another system, the error quotient goes up unexpectedly.

Another shortcoming in the Siri that is worth mentioning, it is based on specific database information. So, it is not able to answer each and every question asked to it or it cannot carry all the commands. It restricts the queries to certain areas as it can only work on certain predefined domains.



The users in the United States opine still there is a lot of scope for making a development in Siri. They believe it could have been better if there would be a wide scope to put more and more predefined information in it. And most importantly, it should meet its usability that depends on the network. Yet people are not falling crazy for Siri. So, improving in the techniques involved in it might do the trick for Apple!
